The second image looks like Polyrhachis from its gaster and mesosoma. But if the first is Cephalotes, the second image guess would be misleading. Its eyes are different from Polyrhachis, anyway.

I identified this ant as Cephalotes multispinosus based on John Longino's Costa Rica keys. Myrmecos1 may be right that the keys are inadequate for Mexico, but it looks like a pretty good match to me...
